Girl Scout Cabin Camping

Every year around this time, our Girl Scout troop goes on a weekend cabin trip. We usually use this time to work on things for World Thinking Day which falls later in February. However, this year, our Service Unit decided to move World Thinking Day for the same weekend which we had reserved our cabin. We gave the girls the choice and they chose the cabin trip over World Thinking Day this year.

We arrived Friday night at our cabin in nearby Mableton.

On Friday night we made sock puppets from a kit.

Here are the girls with their sock puppets.

Then we played Bunco.

Then it was time for bed.

One of the things we worked over the weekend was the Let's Get Cooking badge. So the girls did the majority of the cooking. Hannah's patrol made breakfast on Saturday morning.

After breakfast was cleaned up, we went on a hike. The weather was very warm for February.

As part of our hike, we went to the Girl Scout Badge & Sash store which is on the same property. Many of the girls had never been to the GS store. We had asked for them all to bring $5 and it was fun watching them spend it.

Here is Hannah posing next to a display made out of GS cookie boxes right outside the Badge & Sash.

After our hike, the girls had to get lunch started. As part of our cooking badge, they "played restaurant". By patrols, the girls took turns waiting on each other, cooking, and serving. The girls had a blast.

After lunch, they had some free time. We call it "Turtle Time". They hung out on their bunks for a while and had some down time.

The Girl Scout camp offers optional activities that we could choose from. Not knowing what the weather was going to be like in early February, we chose the "Spa Kit". It included all the directions and supplies to make lip gloss, lip balm, soap, bath fizzies, as well as paint your nails and have facials.

The girls made a yummy strawberry dessert.

Consists of strawberry yogurt and lite Cool Whip mixed together and put in a mini graham cracker shell. Then strawberries placed on top. Some girls put more Cool Whip on that. We froze them for a little bit.

Here are the girls who prepared our taco bar for dinner.

One of our traditions is to have karaoke and a pajama fashion show. And even the moms joined in.

Sunday morning was spent cleaning up and packing. Here are all the girls outside the cabin.

We're so lucky to be part of a nice group of Girl Scouts!
