Tombstones

I may have mentioned in the past, that I LOVE Halloween! We have accumulated quite a lot of Halloween decorations over the years.

A few years ago we started setting up a cemetery in our yard for Halloween. However, the styrofoam tombstones just don't hold up very well over the years. So this year, we decided to make our own.

Hannah traced some of our styrofoam tombstones onto some plywood.

Then Chris cut them out.

Then Hannah helped to glue some extra wood on the back so the wire rods could be drilled into.

 Then we painted the wood.

We used various shades of gray and black to create weathered looking stone.

I painted the names and phrases. Here are some of the finished products. The R.I.P one is an old styrofoam one, the others are all our new sturdy ones.

The R.I.P in this shot is also an old one.

We received a lot of wind, thanks to Hurricane Sandy, so the new, plywood tombstones held up very well. We only put up a couple of our old ones. We've already decided that we will make more next year.
