Girl Scout Trip to Savannah {Day 1}

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts. Our troop decided that was a good reason to visit Savannah! The girls had been saving their hard earned cookie money for the last two years. We left on a Sunday. So Day 1 was mostly a driving day.

We stayed at the Best Western on Bay Street. We were very pleased with our accommodations. We had two sets of adjoining rooms. The location of the hotel was incredible. It was a short 10 minute walk to get to the Juliette Gordon Low house. The complimentary breakfast was wonderful. It offered eggs, sausage, waffle machines, cereals, yogurts, pastries, toast, bagels, and fruit. Plus, the hotel offered us a very nice "Girl Scout" rate which was significantly lower than the regular rates.

Here is a picture of one of the rooms.

One of the first things we did on our trip, was to take a trolley ride through Savannah. Here are the girls with their Old Town Trolley fans.

The girls actually earned a Girl Scout badge while on the trolley. They had to answer questions about Savannah as we toured the city.

Here is the badge that they earned.

After the trolley ride, we were able to check into our hotel. For dinner that night, we walked down to Cilantro's  which was located on Bay Street, just a short walk from our hotel.

Cilantro's offered a Mexican menu which pleased  all of the girls. We got their early, so we were able to get a large table without any wait.

After dinner we walked back to the hotel (in the rain). Because of the weather, we decided not to explore Savannah on foot as we had originally planned. Instead, we decided to go back and hang out at the hotel. We had a little meeting with the girls to discuss our plans for the Girl Scout birthplace trip the next day, then we decided to let the girls get a treat from the vending machine. The girls squealed in delight and told us that we were "the best Girl Scout leaders ever!". All because of the vending machines!! One girl told us that she had never used a vending machine before. So we were happy to provide that life experience for them!

Amazingly, all of the girls were in bed no later than 9:30 that night.
