The week before Hannah went to Girl Scout camp, she and a friend had a lemonade stand by the neighborhood pool. Both girls are huge animal lovers, so before they even started selling lemonade, they decided that they wanted to give all of the proceeds to help animals.
Hannah had heard of Our Pal's Place, an animal adoption/rescue facility in Marietta and wanted the money to go to them.
Here are the two girls standing by their lemonade stand and being silly.
Hannah likes to play around on the computer, so she used her expertise to create this sign. She also printed out pictures of animals who are waiting for their forever homes to have on hand, too.
Her friend made this cute sign.
On Sunday, we finally had the chance to go deliver the money to Our Pal's Place. It is a house that has been converted into the animal shelter, located off Canton Highway in Marietta.
The girls were given a tour of the facility and introduced to many of the residents.
The girls were asked to select a dog to be the recipient of their donation. After thoughtful consideration, they chose a Great Dane named Millie. Millie is new to the shelter and needs a vet visit, so the money will be used to help with that expense. Here the girls are loving on Millie.
They presented their hard earned money (a total of $66.13) to Ms. Ann, the adoption manager.
We were very impressed with the whole operation. The facility was clean and the animals looked very healthy and happy. The mother of Hannah's friend said she'd definitely go there the next time they were looking for a new four-legged family member.
This is such a fantastic story. Thank you for sharing Laurie! My name is Michael Stone, editor of the online newspaper Powder Springs Patch (www.powdersprings.patch.com). I was wondering if you would be interested in also posting your blogs on the site? We have a special section just for bloggers called "Local Voices" (here's the link to the section: http://powdersprings.patch.com/search/blog_posts). It'd basically be the same thing you're doing here--only you would also have the exposure of those who visit the Patch site. There aren't any word or frequency requirements; you can write as little or as much as you'd like. If you're interested, you can reach me at michael.stone@patch.com. Thank you for your time and keep up the good work!
