Hannah's Camp Trunk

Hannah is getting ready for a week of Girl Scout camp. She has decided to use a trunk this year instead of her usual duffel bag. We had an extra plastic trunk, so she cleaned that out.

Here's the empty/clean trunk before she decorated it.

Hannah LOVES duct tape crafts, so she used many of her beautiful duct tapes to decorate her trunk.

On the sides, she put random stripes of printed duct tape to show the many different types that she owns.

She is especially proud of the top of the trunk. She wanted it to look more finished as opposed to sides. She put her initials on the top.

Hannah with her finished masterpiece.

She is super excited about camp! I'm hoping she'll start packing soon.

Medieval Times

Saturday was Scout Day at Medieval Times. When our girls found out about it, they couldn't wait to go!

Our menu. We had to eat every sans utensils.

Most of the girls had never been to Medieval Times before. Each group gets assigned a color which coordinates with one of the knights. Our knight was the Black & White one.

The lighting wasn't very good for pictures! Here's our row.

View from the other direction.

You can see the Black & White Knight in front of our section.

Some beautiful horses.

The knights all lined up for competition.

The king and his daughter, the princess.

The girls had a blast!

Here's a picture of our girls with the Black & White Knight.

What fun memories!

Girl Scout Field Trip

Our Girl Scout troop recently had a double field trip in downtown Atlanta. We started at the CNN Center for a tour of CNN. The girls have been working on the Media Journey so we thought a trip to the CNN Studios would follow along with that.

One thing that I found interesting from our tour, was that the CNN building used to house an indoor amusement park called The World of Sid & Marty Kroft! Unfortunately the park closed after only 6 months. I would LOVE to see pics of this place!! I've searched online but haven't found much so far.

Here's a picture of the girls outside of CNN.

Another one of the girls inside with a rainbow unicorn creature that I am unfamiliar with.

I didn't take many pictures on our tour. We were restricted in many areas and when we could take pictures, we couldn't use our flash. (It took me a while to figure out how to turn the flash off on my camera! Oops!)

Here's a picture of Hannah with a cardboard Wolf Blitzer. The look on her face says it all. "Who IS this guy????". I assured her that her father would know who he was.

We at lunch at the CNN food course. Well, actually, we bought lunch at the CNN food course, but we were in a hurry to get to our next destination, so we ate in the cars.

Our next stop was Georgia Tech. We signed up for a Girl Scout only Scratch Animation workshop. The girls really had fun learning how to use Scratch.

What a fun day! The girls are excited to try more Scratch animating at home. I can't wait to see what they come up with!

Girl Scout GirlaPalooza

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts. In Georgia, they held a special GirlaPalooza event at Six Flags on Sunday to celebrate the 100th anniversary. The park was only open to Girl Scouts and their family and friends. Our troop decided to go, as well as a few moms and James & Chris. Though James & Chris pretty much did their own thing - we did meet up with them now & then.

Hannah and some of her Girl Scout friends with Penelope the Turtle - a Girl Scout mascot.

Now they are posing with Daffy Duck.

Hannah rode the Wheelie a couple of times. This is the last year for the Wheelie. A new ride will be in its place next year.

There was absolutely no line at the Superman ride. That's what we were hoping for! The girls predicted that there would be more younger Girl Scouts at Girlapalooza than older ones. I don't know if that was true or not, but the lines for some of the bigger rides were definitely short.

Here they are at the end of the ride.

We rode the Monster Plantation ride next. It was beginning to rain a bit, so the covered waiting area was a nice place to stay dry.

Earlier this year, Chris & I made a donation to the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. A few weeks before GirlaPalooza, we got an invitation to attend a special VIP reception during GirlaPalooza. I rsvp'd for Hannah & myself. So when it was time for lunch, Hannah & I went to the VIP reception

The VIP reception took place at the Crystal Pistol. We sat at a table with two other mother/daughter couples. The VIP reception was for donors and for girls who have earned the Gold Award.

We got cotton candy & popcorn.

There were veggies & dip, fruit & cheeses, sandwiches, churros, nachos, and fried apple pies.

Here's Hannah with her fun food!

More rides

No line for the Batman Ride either.

On the drive over to Six Flags, I was telling Hannah about the entertainment at the park. I mentioned "Matty B" was going to be there. I had no idea who he was, but evidently she did because she and her friend who was driving with us both started screaming! Evidently Matty B is a 9 year old You Tube rap star. So some of the girls wanted to go to his Meet & Greet session. Here's Hannah with Matty B!He is awfully cute!

Then on our way out, we saw one of the other entertainers, Lindee Link. We didn't know who she was, but the girls wanted to get her autograph and picture.

We had such a fun time!

Girl Scout Trip to Savannah {Day 4}

On our last morning we walked back to River Street.

We hopped on the ferry and took the 30 minute free ride.

Here are the girls posing by our ferry.

After the ferry ride, we checked out of our hotel and drove over to the Laurel Grove Cemetery and visited Juliet Gordon Low's grave site. The girls gathered around and sang "Make New Friends".

After our visit to the cemetery, we went to the Pirates' House for our 11:00 lunch reservations.

The girls hung out with a pirate while we waited.

We had the lunch buffet which was excellent. A lof of the same items that were on the Lady & Sons buffet, but in some cases, the items here were better!

After lunch we went upstairs to the new gift shop. This pirate used to be downstairs by the hostess station, but now he has a large corner upstairs.

Out on the porch for a picture.

After lunch, it was time to head back to Powder Springs. We had a fabulous trip. The girls were so well behaved! We've already started talking about our next big trip!
