Duran Duran Appreciation Day

Yes, today is Duran Duran Appreciation Day. I didn't know it even existed. Evidently it's been a thing for several years now.

Back in the 80's, I was a huge Duran Duran fan. Here are a few pictures of what my bedroom looked like circa 1985.

I had a few Duran Duran posters on my walls.

Here's a picture of me.

Unfortunately, Duran Duran never toured in Indianapolis back then, so I never had the chance to see them. That is until 2005 when my sister invited me to Las Vegas to see them at the Hard Rock. So of course, I did what any self respecting nearly 40 year old mom would do. I took my kids out of school and we flew to Vegas. In all fairness though, James was in 1st grade and Hannah attended a MMO program.

Bethany was able to get me into a small, private acoustic performance of the band.

Here's a picture to show how close I was to band.

There was a Q/A session with the band.

And here I am (far left). John Taylor had his arm around me, but that was cut out of the picture.

Here's my sister with the band.

That same evening, we got to attend a full on concert while seated in the VIP section which was very cool. Duran Duran came to Atlanta in 2011, so I got to see them in concert again. I blogged about that concert here.

Duran Duran Concert

I am a huge fan of 80's music. One of my favorite bands from the 80's is Duran Duran. I got to see them in concert in 2005 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. This past weekend, we saw them at Chastain Park in Atlanta. It was for our monthly date night with our friends.

We bought lawn seats for the concert and found a decent spot to the side of the stage.
Here are Eric & Sue.

Here's a shot of the band. I was a fan of Nick Rhodes (far right) when I was younger. Now I'm a Simon LeBon fan. He has aged quite well.

It was really a nice evening. The weather was beautiful - a little cool, but pleasant. We had rain for the preceding days, so we were thrilled with the dry weather for the concert. Duran Duran played a mix of old tunes and new ones. To be honest, I wasn't very familiar with most of the new ones. I downloaded the new album on i-tunes months ago, but haven't gotten around to listening to it.

On the way back home, we listened to some of the old songs that the band didn't play.

Here are pictures from 2005 when I saw them in Vegas. My sister was working at the Hard Rock at the time and got me into a small, private acoustic set with the band. Everyone got to have their picture taken in small groups. John Taylor had his arm around me, but you can't see it in the picture.

Here's a picture to show how close I was during the performance.

My lucky sister got to have her picture taken alone with the band.

Then that evening, we saw the regular concert at the Hard Rock. So I guess I've gotten to see them 3 times in concert. Of course, I had to wait until my 30's before I saw them the first time.
