Dragon*Con Parade

For the past 4 years, on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend we have attended the Dragon*Con parade in downtown Atlanta. According to the official Dragon*Con website, it is the largest multi-media popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe. Basically, if you have a child (or spouse) who is in to Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Super Heroes, video games, comic books, and much, much more, then this is the place you need to be over the holiday weekend.

This year we drove into the city and found a great covered parking area only a block away that was $5 for the day! Last year we took the MARTA train which the kids really enjoyed. The kids each took a friend to the parade and we met up with many other friends downtown. Who knew we had so many geeky friends?!?

Hannah and her friend dressed up in Hogwarts attire for the day.

Here is James with some of his friends.

And here I am with one of my friends!

The younger (shorter) kids were able to sit up front to view the parade.

And the parade begins.....

A captured alien! Note the presence of red shirt man. Unfortunately this man appears in most of our pictures. We couldn't believe how rude he was - the shorter kids (and not just ours) were sitting on the ground to the right of him. He kept stepping out in front of them to take pictures. According to Chris, one of the many common sense life rules is "Don't block the parade view of little kids!" It's one thing to stand in front of shorter adults, but little kids????? It doesn't matter if you have kids or not.  This rule applies to all parades! We've seen this happen at the parades at the Disney theme parks. Okay, I am done ranting.

The Blue Brothers (and annoying man in the red shirt)

We loved this!  "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!"

Buddy the Elf

Blockhead Marvel Avengers

The Sleestaks from Land of the Lost.

Here is Nyan Cat, also known as Pop Tart Cat.

Creatures from Netherworld, an Atlanta area haunted house (seasonal).

Characters from Netherworld

The brotherhood of steel from Fallout 3 video game.

Random Star Wars characters ended the parade.

We had a fun time at the parade. Maybe next year will be the one where we actually attend the convention!
